For anyone who has used Speedplay pedals for a while, you know they have flaws, one of which is the “walkable” covers that pop off with any significant walking! That is one of the prices we pay, for the free float (with adjustable float range) as well as independently adjustable fore/aft and left right positionability. These 3rd party cleats are a decent low cost replacement if you are looking to save a few bucks, and will function close to, but not quite as precisely as, the OEM cleats, but they also have the same flaws as the the OEM models, which is a byproduct of them replicating the OEM cleats so closely.I don’t tend to have problems clipping into any pedals, and prefer a tight release to prevent accidental clip-outs, so these seem good for me so far. I see another reviewer mentioned de-tuning the edges on these with a file, to smooth the entry and that might be a good idea for people who have trouble clipping in.In the past, I’ve very much been guilty of running my cleats for too long, which contributed to a lot of play in the pedal/cleat interface due to accumulated wear. The improvements Wahoo has made since they bought out Speedplay go a long way to reducing wear in the pedal body (via the stainless steel ring around the edge), and the reduced price of cleats like these will address the other half of the equation, as I will be less likely to try to stretch the milage of my cleats beyond the reasonable limit.In the past, Speedplay would come down hard with litigation on anyone trying to offer 3rd party accessories for their pedal design, and I am hopeful that, now that Wahoo owns them, they’ll be a little more chill in that regard, as it would be great to see wider spread adoption of the Speedplay design. From a bike fitting perspective, they really are the best.
